7 Types of Artificial Intelligence

when you think about artificial intelligence you might have imagined self- driving cars or robots overtaking humans as shows in Sci-Fi movies or Sophia, the Robot That Looks Almost Human. You will be constrained to limited references for AI. In fact, there are several types of AI that have been developed and helping humans in various range of activities.

Let’s get into types of Artificial Intelligence :

1) Weak artificial intelligence:

Weak artificial intelligence is a form of AI specifically designed to be focused on a narrow task and to seem very intelligent at it given tasks. That computers can only appear to think but are not actually conscious in any sense of the word. Weak AI simply acts upon and is bound by the rules imposed on it and it could not go beyond those rules. Here each and every possible scenario need to be entered manually.

2) General Artificial Intelligence:

General Artificial Intelligence would be capable of understanding the world as well as any human, and with the same capacity to learn how to carry out a huge range of tasks by applying experience gathered from one area and applying in a different area.

3) Strong Artificial Intelligence:

Strong Artificial Intelligence is the machine that can actually think and perform tasks on its own that mimic the human brain. Strong AI’s goal is to develop artificial intelligence to the point where the machine’s intellectual capability is functionally equal to a human’s. Strong AI is also known as full AI

Based on functionalities there are further categorized into 4 types:

1) Reactive Machines:

This is the fundamental types of artificial intelligence systems that are quite reactive and It doesn’t have past memory they are not able to use previous experiences to advise current decisions or for future actions.

2) Limited Memory AI:

As the name suggests, the memory in such systems is short-lived. These systems can go back to their past experiences and learn from it to inform future decisions. Limited memory AI is mostly used in self-driving cars where the sensors detect instances of a pedestrian crossing, traffic lights and any curves in the road, weather, incoming vehicle, lane detection, will be added to the AI machine to make smarter driving decisions

3) Theory of Mind AI:

Theory of mind artificial intelligence is a very advanced technology his type of AI should be able to understand people’s emotion, belief, thoughts, expectations and be able to interact socially

4) Self-Aware AI:

Self-aware artificial intelligence is an extension of the Theory of Mind AI. In this type of artificial intelligence, machines, or robots has their’s own conscious they are aware of who they are, understand their internal traits, states and conditions, and even perceive human emotions. (In simple words a complete human being). Of course, this kind of bot also doesn’t exist.
